I hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable Spring Break. It’s hard to believe there are only three months left of this school year. Third term seems to go by quickly as we have many fun learning activities planned. (The warmer weather helps, too.)
Volunteers Needed We are looking for volunteers for a special activity. On Thursday, April 18th students will participate in Earth Day stations with Mrs. Watt’s class in the morning. If you are available to help on April 18, please send me an email or write a note in your child’s home reading book. Thanks! A Show Mrs. Watt’s class and our class have been lucky enough to be invited to go see the musical “Beauty and the Beast” at the Surrey elementary school “Betty Huff” on April 29. Tickets are only $6/ person. A notice was sent home today. We will be looking for parent drivers who would like to enjoy the show with us. All permission slips are due April 9. Disney Day On Friday, April 5th, the Dogwood student leadership is planning a school-wide “Disney Day”. You can interpret this however you like – wear Disney related clothing, bring a Disney stuffy, dress like a character from a Disney movie…. Students will see how the rest of the school shows their Disney spirit during our assembly that day. No need to buy anything, show your creativity in your outfit! Class Photo Day Class photo day will be Monday, April 15th. Please be on time as we are often one of the first classes to be called to the gym. Remember to wear a smile! Curriculum In Math, students are learning addition and subtraction to 20. We will explore many mental math strategies for adding and subtracting numbers. In Language Arts, the students will be working on adding details to their writing. We will also learn more about the writing process, including revising and editing. We will continue reading instruction in Guided Reading as well. Hopefully you have also noticed your child is bringing home “good copies” of their original stories that they wrote during our Read/Write Cycle in a “shiny folder”. In Social Studies, we will be learning all about the environment, the differences between natural and human-made features, and ways we can take care of our Earth. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
